We believe the AMI approach to Montessori education is the gold standard for early child development, with the ability to bring positive change to society as a whole. As such, there is a need for teachers who are passionate and properly trained in the principles and practices of the AMI. We make this happen by:
- Delivering the AMI syllabus through AMI-qualified instructors.
- Awarding diplomas on the results of AMI examinations.
- Giving preference to graduates and those with higher qualifications.

Our History
Before Partition
When Dr. Maria Montessori first visited the Indian Subcontinent in 1939, she was constrained to stay here for seven years to the Second World War. This was when the seeds of Montessori education were first sown in what is now Pakistan.
Dr. Montessori conducted many teaching courses in different cities around the subcontinent, with the last one being at Karachi in 1946. The pioneer of the Montessori Movement in Pakistan was Mrs. Gool. K. Minwalla, who was one of the 345 students of the first teachersโ training course conducted by Dr. Montessori herself in Kalekshetra, Adyar in 1939. Mrs. Minwalla also founded her first Montessori House of Children in Karachi in 1941, which was recognized by the AMI, and was instrumental in inviting Dr. Montessori to Pakistan post-independence.
After Partition
The Pakistan Montessori Association was soon established, and the first Pakistan Montessori Teachers Training course was inaugurated by Dr. Maria Montessori and conducted by Mr. Joosten in Karachi in 1949.
The Second teacher’s training course was inaugurated by Mario Montessori Senior in 1966. Since then, training courses have been conducted every year with Mrs. Gool K. Minwalla as the Director of Training. She was assisted in the training courses by Mrs. Gul Rustamji, Mrs. Majida Sufi, Mrs. Arnawaz Dinshaw, Mrs. Arifa Saifee, Mrs. Farida Akbar, and Mrs. Anisa Moin.
In 1999, at the request of the AMI, a new body was formed which would conduct the AMI training courses for teachers in Pakistan.
